Nitrogen Structure Determination in Treated Fancy Diamonds via EPR Spectroscopy

Color induction in nitrogen-contaminated diamonds was carried out via various procedures that involve irradiation, thermal treatments (annealing), and more. These affect vacancy defect production atom orientation centers the diamond lattice. Natural underwent color enhancement order to produce green, blue, yellow fancy diamonds. The aim of this study follow changes occurring during treatment, mainly by EPR spectroscopy, which is main source for determination effect paramagnetic (carbon-centered radicals) on produced treatments, but also visual assessment, fluorescence, UV-vis, FTIR spectroscopy. results indicate containing high levels nitrogen contamination are associated with carbon-centered radical concentrations. Four center structures (N1, N4, P2/W21) were generated treatment. It suggested N4 structure correlates formation blue centers, whereas attributed presence N1 species. While colors, a treatment needed after treated green diamonds, no (only irradiation).
